Date Cookies, from Grandma

Date Cookies, from Grandma

Mom wrote: I think these are Grandma Fashingbauer's from long, long ago. They are very good, Ed likes them a lot, but they are hard to roll out. A little sticky but worth the trouble--every 10 years!

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 package dates

1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
2 cups rolled oats

Boil filling ingredients until mushy, then cool.

Dough: Roll thin and cut. Put tsp of filling on each and fold over. Bake until light brown.
